In many water-stressed regions globally, women are disproportionately affected by the societal and environmental pressures of water scarcity.

Cargill Currents focuses on uplifting women through water access and other socio-economic benefits, resulting in improved community resilience and economic development.

The partnership positively impacts women who make up more than half of the agricultural workforce in Cargill’s cocoa farming communities. These women are farmers, entrepreneurs, and business owners who typically carry the primary responsibility for their children’s education and family’s livelihood.

The Cargill Currents initiative empowers women and their communities through access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) – as well as training and skills development in WASH, agriculture, financial literacy and entrepreneurship programs.

“Our Cargill partnership prioritizes programming that addresses the
needs of women, particularly in agricultural supply chains. We emphasize water, health and training services that contribute to the empowerment of women and girls, which offers a multiplier effect for community development.”
