Bulgaria: Europe

In Bulgaria, Cargill Currents is improving  climate change resilience and address water scarcity challenges in the rural areas of Sofia and Varna. The project is restoring  public water fountains that were once a vital source of clean water in rural areas. Activities also include tree planting, restoration of two micro wetlands, and  community engagement focused on climate change and the importance of conservation. An estimated 25,000 people will  benefit from improved water access and climate change resilience, improving the quality of livelihoods and wellbeing of rural community members in Bulgaria.

Brazil: South America

The Cargill Currents partnership in Brazil supports the construction of water supply systems and sanitation facilities, significantly improving drinking water access, public health, and livelihoods for Brazilian communities across eight municipalities and watersheds.

Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana: West Africa

In West Africa, the partnership is positively impacting lives in cocoa-growing regions through the construction of water supply systems and sanitation facilities in schools and communities. Programming includes training in financial literacy and entrepreneurship, particularly for female farmers.

Communities have been positively impacted through WASH, improved health, and other activities, and women have been empowered through time savings, skills building and income generation activities.

India: Asia

In India, Cargill Currents is increasing groundwater and surface water storage capacity with the help of recharge shafts, recharge trenches and through desilting of water bodies, improving water security across three water-scarce villages.

Cargill Currents has also established Self Help Groups (SHGs). Through these groups, women in  Gujarat communities benefit from training in skills development, leading to increased income and improved food security, with additional resources supplemented by sustainably managed agricultural land and gardens.

United States: North America

In the U.S., Cargill Currents partners with leading community-based, non-profit organizations in California, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, North Dakota and Texas. These efforts focus on restoration and conservation, including providing guidance on best practices in water stewardship, improving watershed health and mitigating water pollution.

Cargill Currents North America has positively impacted 124 local communities and delivered significant gains in regenerative agriculture practices and water returned to nature.
