Restoring water to Turkey’s iconic and vital Lake Iznik basin.

Lake Iznik, which provides critical drinking, industrial, and agricultural water for Turkey’s Marmara region, faces severe depletion due to climate-induced drought, excessive agricultural extraction, and industrial use.

Following a comprehensive assessment on water quality, availability, and socio-economic impacts, GWC and Cargill, with implementing partner Doktar, are strengthening long-term agricultural water efficiency.

Working with local farmers, and utilizing data-driven tools, the program reduces water withdrawals and is expected to restore 370+ MM water liters annually while building resilience and improving livelihoods for surrounding communities.
