Driving human progress through social enterprise

Strengthen Her: Mobilizing Ventures for Social Innovation (SHE-MOVES) was a catalytic global partnership between Global Water Challenge, Ford Motor Company and Ford Motor Company Fund.

By combining philanthropic and social enterprise incubation models, the program created sustainable change by uplifting women-led social enterprises through mobility.

Placing women at the center of development to inspire long-term change

A UN SDG aligned program, SHE-MOVES promoted female-led entrepreneurship and improved women and youth mobility by:

  • Backing women-focused community ventures and social enterprises
  • Providing “Whole-Person Leadership” to promote better health, develop critical skills and inspire activation of ideas
  • Supporting child/maternal health, education and disability support services

SHE-MOVES drove progress on multiple SDGs:

Empowering women by improving access to mobility and social enterprise in India, Nigeria and South Africa.

Partnership program examples

Mobility and economic empowerment are key obstacles to women’s ability to realize their potential.

To help tackle these challenges, SHE-MOVES invested in women’s professional and personal development in addition to improving access to mobility. These programs helped to uplift not only women but also their families and communities.

ENABLING AND EMPOWERING COMMUTERS THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

In Nigeria, SHE-MOVES supported Shuttlers, a woman-owned, app-based shuttle service to provide safe transport for women. While on board, commuters receive mobile device-based training and mentorship to develop essential job and entrepreneurial skills.

INCREASING MOBILITY AND EXPANDING HEALTH AND EDUCATION

With World Vision India, Flexible Response Vehicles (FRVs) were deployed to expand rural health and education services through mobile clinics and libraries.

IMPROVING QUALITY
OF LIFE THROUGH
MOBILITY

Through SHE-MOVES, the Uhambo Foundation, in South Africa provided community support and education to improve access to work, school or social events for disabled children and their families.
