The Global Water Challenge (GWC) and The Starbucks Foundation share a deep commitment to creating a more equitable and sustainable world. By combining GWC’s expertise in water solutions with The Starbucks Foundation’s dedication to empowering communities, we’re making a tangible difference in East Africa. This partnership focuses on improving water access, boosting community livelihoods, and empowering women in Tanzania, building a brighter future for generations to come.
Women’s empowerment through WASH [Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene] is a proven approach for achieving community economic transformation and resilience. Our partnership with The Starbucks Foundation in Kenya and Tanzania has transformed coffee- and tea-growing communities in our project regions by empowering women to build a more sustainable future for themselves.
Our collaboration is centred around several key initiatives designed to address critical needs in East Africa communities:
Clean water is the foundation for healthy communities. Through this partnership, we’re implementing sustainable water solutions like borehole drilling, rainwater harvesting systems, and water purification technologies. These projects provide reliable access to safe water for drinking, sanitation, and agriculture, reducing waterborne diseases and improving overall health. We’re working to reach [Insert Number] people in [Insert Number] communities with access to clean water.
Access to water unlocks economic opportunities. Our programs go beyond simply providing water; we’re supporting community livelihoods through sustainable agriculture training, small business development, and access to micro-financing. We are focusing on communities that rely on coffee production, ensuring that they have a reliable water source for their crops and the ability to improve their farming practices. This ensures sustainability and long-term economic growth for families and communities.
Empowering women is crucial for building resilient communities. We provide skills development training programs focused on water resource management, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as entrepreneurship and financial literacy. These programs equip women with the knowledge and skills they need to become leaders in their communities and drive positive change. On International Women’s Day, we were reminded of the profound impact of these programs, delivering hope and promoting empowerment for women across the region.
Together, GWC and The Starbucks Foundation have made a tangible difference in the lives of people in Tanzania.
